The history sections were written by two of close Thomas Dale High School friends (in Chesterfield County, Virginia) who graduated with me in 1988 and went on to be historians. I was thrilled to have two friends uniquely qualified to help me better understand the full history of economic security in this country. I immediately reached out to them when we launched RGMII, and together we researched and documented the history of direct cash transfer programs in the United States. We were all surprised by what we learned.

You should know two things about our AP History teacher. He loved Jethro Tull, and would mime the panflutes on demand, much to the delight of the class. There was also one observation he made frequently in class:

US History always shows us one thing: if you want change, you gotta hit 'em in the pocketbook.
